Situated on the Tuscan Coast, near the charming village of Bolgheri, this extraordinary estate overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea, its vineyards rooted in a unique terroir. The name Masseto derives from the dense, blue clay formations—known as massi—that define the vineyard’s character and contribute to the wine’s unmistakable depth and structure.
Originally the vision of Lodovico Antinori, Masseto was established in the 1980s and has been under the stewardship of the esteemed Frescobaldi family since 2005. The estate is dedicated to producing a single, world-class wine that epitomizes the elegance and power of Merlot, with each vintage expressing the nuances of its exceptional terroir.
As Estate Director Axel Heinz eloquently states:
“At Masseto, we try to do as little as possible to the wines. Our goal is simply to capture the essence of nature and take it to the highest level.
