The Romanée-Conti Echézeaux Grand Cru AOC 1994 is a prestigious wine from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC), one of the most sought-after producers in Burgundy. While Echézeaux is often considered one of the more accessible Grand Crus from DRC, it still maintains exceptional quality and aging potential.
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, commonly referred to as DRC, is the most revered estate in Burgundy, consistently setting the global benchmark for fine Pinot Noir. Its legacy spans centuries, from the Bourbon Prince of Conti’s ownership of the estate’s namesake vineyard in the 18th century, through the upheavals of the French Revolution, to its stewardship today under the de Villaine and Leroy/Roch families. The domaine oversees 25 hectares of exclusively Grand Cru vineyards, making it the only Burgundian estate to bottle nothing less than the pinnacle of the region’s classification system.
DRC wines are renowned for their elegance, intensity, and profound transparency. Their signature style leans towards red fruit nuances over darker tones, complemented by an ethereal aromatic complexity that develops with age. The domaine employs 100% whole-cluster fermentation, enhancing both aromatic depth and structure. Additionally, all wines are aged in 100% new oak barrels, a technique that seamlessly integrates with the wine over time, contributing to its legendary aging potential. One of DRC’s defining characteristics is its ability to express the individuality of each Grand Cru vineyard, even in its youth. While powerful and structured in their early years, these wines evolve into some of the most harmonious and profound expressions of Pinot Noir with age.
