A Timeless Legacy of Excellence
Nestled in the heart of Bordeaux’s esteemed Margaux appellation, Château Margaux stands as an enduring symbol of winemaking artistry. This grand estate, with origins tracing back to the 12th century, is among the most revered in Bordeaux. The château itself, an architectural masterpiece completed in the early 18th century, reflects the elegance and prestige that define its wines.
While the estate experienced periods of inconsistency in the early 20th century, it was revitalized with the arrival of the visionary Paul Pontallier. Over nearly 35 vintages, he crafted some of the most extraordinary wines of modern times, solidifying Château Margaux’s status among the world’s finest. Following his passing in 2016, the estate continues its pursuit of excellence under the leadership of Philippe Bascaules and Sébastien Vergne, with esteemed consultant Eric Boissenot contributing to the winemaking philosophy.
Spanning 82 hectares, Château Margaux is primarily dedicated to red wine production, with plantings comprising approximately 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The estate produces around 30,000 cases annually, with the Grand Vin representing the pinnacle of their output. Their distinguished second wine, Pavillon Rouge, upholds the château’s unwavering commitment to quality and refinement.
Beyond its celebrated reds, Château Margaux also produces a rare and highly sought-after white wine from Sauvignon Blanc. This limited-production offering further exemplifies the estate’s dedication to excellence, adding a unique dimension to its prestigious portfolio.
